Across Africa and the global South, women drive household economies, run the majority of micro-enterprises, and increasingly hold disposable income. Yet the financing gap for women-owned businesses in sub-Saharan Africa alone exceeds US$40 billion (IFC), and Africa forfeits an estimated US$287 billion in GDP by failing to close its gender participation gap. At current rates of progress, global gender parity will not be achieved for 123 years (World Economic Forum, 2025). For economic participation specifically, the gap will take 257 years to close.
The financial industry was built for the other half of the economy. Products are repurposed, not designed. Advice is recycled. The information ecosystem that helps other segments move money, markets coverage, editorial analysis, investor journalism, financial media, has no serious counterpart for women in Africa. Young women entering the financial system do not see themselves. They do not find voices that speak to their lives. They do not have the trusted platforms that build the confidence to move from curiosity to action.
This gap requires infrastructure built deliberately to close it. Not products. Not apps. Not capital alone. Infrastructure. A coordinated system where media builds audience, audience becomes product users and learners, learners graduate into capital deployment, and grassroots reach produces the credibility and ground truth that unlocks institutional capital. Each pillar stands alone. Together they compound into something no single competitor can copy.
We are the platform built to answer this gap. We operate three integrated pillars—Media, Capital, and Reach—designed to serve young women wherever they are: in school and out of school, in cities and villages, with access to digital platforms and without, with savings to invest and without. We treat women’s financial lives with the seriousness the industry has denied them. We are multilingual, launching in English and French with more languages to follow because the women we serve should not be gated by the language of colonial finance. We are Africa-rooted with global reach. We are building for the long term.
Media builds audience. Audience becomes Cowrie users and course learners. Cowrie generates behavioral data that sharpens our editorial lens. Learners graduate into Debbo Fund investment pipeline. Finance in the Village produces the credibility and lived-experience evidence that unlocks development finance and foundation capital. Every pillar feeds every other pillar. No gap. No dead space. One integrated system.
